He fell for her like a ton of bricks anyway, and one night he told her: ” They say you’re fickle and always break off engagements, so I won’t propose and take a chance. If you think i’ll make a good husband, come on right now down to the church and let’s get married. The minister is waiting.” She agreed, but she asked: “Didn’t you take a big chance that I might say no?” “Sure,” said he, “but it was a bigger chance i’d be taking if I proposed and gave you a chance to get bored with me before we were married.””
